- With the rapid advances of computing and artificial intelligence tools, mathematical research, even in pure areas, has become more experimental. One consequence is the generation of much bigger and complex data sets, which are fascinating in their own rights, and also promise potential applications in many directions. Systematic study and storage of these data sets will become more critical in the near future. I will discuss aspects of this topic from simple examples. The talk will be accessible to beginning graduate or even advanced undergraduate students in mathematics.

报告人介绍：
堪萨斯大学数学系正教授（2019 - 至今），国际知名交换代数学家，长期深耕同调代数、奇点理论、组合交换代数等领域，兼具深厚学术造诣与广泛国际影响力。博士毕业于美国密歇根大学（2001-2006），导师 Melvin Hochster；本科就读于澳大利亚悉尼大学数学系（1998-2000）。曾任犹他大学Wylie助理教授（2006-2008），堪萨斯大学终身轨助理教授（2008-2014）、副教授（2014-2019）。研究领域包括交换环的同调性质、奇点分类、Syzygies、Hilbert-Kunz理论、局部上同调、Macaulay模表示、单项式理想等。主持Simons基金会、NSF、NSA等多项国际基金，发表论文57篇，指导博士生8名、博士后4名。多次访问MSRI、ICMAT、RIMS等顶尖机构，组织KUMUNU系列会议，担任多个国际期刊审稿人及基金评审专家。
